Moon Curser Vineyards Osoyoos
Known for its rich soil and brilliant weather, Osoyoos is home to some of the best wineries in Canada. Among the top vineyards in Osoyoos is the Moon Curser Vineyards. This family-owned vineyard was named the best performing small winery in Canada at the National Wine Award in 2019. Moon curser vineyard is located at 3628 Highway 3 East, Osoyoos and it's a top spot for people who love wines. Wondering how it got the name Moon Curser? Here's a brief story about it:
Osoyoos BC city has been a town that has a rich heritage of good soil and brilliant sunshine. However, during the gold rush era in the region, commotions arose in the area due to the dark of the night. At that time, some unscrupulous gold-smuggling miners stormed the area in their thousands just to take advantage of the dark of the night to avoid customs agents by all means. Oftentimes, the light of the moon would counter their evil plans, shedding its light onto their clandestine travels and activities. Still wondering how the name came about? I guess not!
This boutique, family-owned winery was established in 2004 by Chris and Beata Tolley. Chris and Beata bought an old orchard that needed replanting and thought about converting it to what is today known as Moon Curser Home Vineyard block, winery and tasting room.
The name of this vineyard is a way of paying tribute to the gold-rush history of Osoyoos. However, instead of following the traditional pattern for wineries in the region, Moon Curser always focuses on making premium wines from old-fashioned grape varieties that were hardly seen in Okanagan such as Dolcetto, Tannat, and Touriga Nacional. These grape varieties are not part of the historical varieties of South Okanagan viticulture, but do well in some special areas of the Osoyoos East Bench.
So far, Moon Curser Vineyards and Winery remains one of the best in the whole of Canada. Whenever you take a trip to Osoyoos in the Okanagan Valley, paying a visit to this winery would be worth it. It has a lovely tasting room and welcomes visitors at all times.
