Operation RE/MAX Restart

As we all move forward with the reopening of our communities it is important to remember one common thread of our local fabric…. the store that kept the late hours for last minute pick ups, the restaurant where the staff greeted you by name, the dry cleaners, the winery …our local business community.

Local businesses are part of our lives, and while we will recover – many places will only survive with your help.

By supporting local, we can help ensure that these businesses not only survive but bounce back and thrive!

COVID-19 has made poignant many things including the necessity of being able to access products and services locally.

We have learned how we are all interconnected. Now more than ever, it is important for us to find ways to support each other.

As a small business owner I was pleasantly surprised to be remembered by the Federal Government when COVID hit, it seemed as if in past recessions and down turns only big business was remembered.

Did you know…
There are almost 1.1 million SMEs in Canada.
More than half of the SMEs in Canada (55%) have fewer than 4 employees.
Only 1.6% are medium-sized businesses.
Small businesses employed almost 70% of private sector workers in 2017,
or 7.7 million people across the country.
Of the 1,177,634 employer businesses in Canada, 21.6 percent
are in the goods-producing sector and 78.4 percent are in the
service-producing sector.

Micro-enterprises (1-4 employees) make up 53.8 percent of Canadian businesses. By adding those businesses with 5-9
employees, this number increases to 73.4 percent.
In other words, almost three out of four Canadian businesses have 1-9 employees. It should be noted that the distribution of businesses according to the number of employees varies slightly between the goods-producing and service-producing sectors.
